This weird little cat gadget saved my TV from cord chaos

My entertainment center is not only the center of my living room, it’s also the center of my electronic life at home. More than just the place I stream TV shows or watch movies, my media center also serves as a home for my iPad, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation Portal, Kindle Colorsoft, and all the assorted controllers, remotes, keyboards, etc., that come with these devices.

As you might expect, with so many devices in one area, I had a lot of plugs and charging cables scattered around my TV to try and keep all of my gadgets powered on for whenever I (or visiting friends and family) needed them. And while my haphazard set-up of power strips, charging cables, and USB power bricks mostly worked well enough for my needs, it was far from aesthetically pleasing.

Fortunately, that’s when I found the Tessan Cat Charging Station, which allowed me not only to cut down on cords, but also add a cute little electronic gadget to my home entertainment center that I actually don’t mind looking at.

The Tessan Cat Charging station, is a fairly straightforward power hub that uses GaN fast-charging technology to deliver up to 65W of total output via two USB-C and two USB-A ports. Because that power has to be shared between multiple devices, if you’re charging something like a laptop or a handheld gaming device and want it to be powered on quickly, you’ll want to limit how many other devices you’re charging concurrently in order to get what you need juiced up as quickly as possible.

Though this can seem like a bit of a bug at first, to help you keep an eye on your power management, the device has several very helpful display modes that include total output as well as output by port/device, helping you ensure that your most important gadgets are getting the power they need. I found this helpful when trying to manage things I wanted to use now (like a video game controller) vs. things I could leave to charge overnight, like my iPad.

Though it is dwarfed in power by plenty of other charging stations, for $40, this is a fairly inexpensive charging station, and is available on Amazon in either black or white.

What I liked about the Tessan Cat Charging Station

Cute, functional, and cheap

When it comes to cord management, I’ll admit I can be pretty lazy. If I can plug something in somewhere and then just not worry about it again, that’s typically my go-to solution, and I’m generally not overly concerned with how things look. However, something about this cute little cat-shaped charging station really challenged me to get my cord management in order, and while I typically think about aesthetics last when it comes to tech, the cute little cat ears and adorable charging eyeballs really helped motivate me to finally do something about all the cords and cables scattered around my entertainment system. If you are in need of a medium-power charging station and you like cats, this is an easy recommendation based on its cute little appearance alone, which is honestly its best feature.

Outside its cute cat-like shape, this is a functional little device as well. Being able to cycle the display to look at exactly what was receiving the most power and when was extremely helpful when deciding how and when to power my various gadgetry and I was able to use this device to get several game controllers powered up in less than an hour before a recent game night, which was extremely helpful.

I also appreciated this device’s affordability. $40 doesn’t make it the cheapest charging station out there, but it’s not the most pricey either and with its multiple display functions, ports, and of course, cute aesthetics, the price point feels about right for what you’re getting.

What I didn’t like about the Tessan Cat Charging Station

Not suitable for all setups

Though this little device worked perfectly for my entertainment center, if I was looking for something for work, I would definitely want something more heavy duty than a 65W power station. My work set up often requires me to charge several heavy-duty items like a laptop, iPad Air, and my iPhone all at once and though this little device can theoretically handle such a situation, nothing would get charged very quickly, and I’d have to find a different charger for at least one of my devices, which defeats the purpose of the charging station to begin with.

Should you buy the Tessan Cat Charging Station?

It depends on what you’re trying to charge

If you’re thinking about getting yourself one of these cute little power stations, I think the first step is to take a realistic look at how you might use it and what your power needs realistically are. If you’re like me and have light to moderate power needs, this cute little device will fit right into your set-up. However, if you need something that, for example, will charge your Switch 2, MacBook, and iPhone at the same time, this probably won’t work.

At the end of the day, for $40 I’m pretty happy with this little device, as it does everything I need it to for my personal situation, and its cute aesthetics have made it not only a fun addition to my living room, but something of a conversation piece whenever I have friends and family over to play games or watch a movie. It’s a cute, functional little device that does exactly what it says it will, and if you’re in the market for a fun little charging solution, the Tessan Cat Charging Station should fit the bill nicely. It’s not the cheapest or the best, but it is probably the cutest, and, for me, that’s enough.
