Bluesky Debuts Attie, An AI Assistant To Rival Grok

Bluesky, the decentralized social network positioned as a primary alternative to X (formerly Twitter), has officially unveiled Attie. This standalone AI application allows users to build personalized feeds and define their own algorithmic rules using natural language, removing the need for programming knowledge.

Announced during the Atmosphere conference, Attie operates on the AT Protocol (atproto) and leverages Anthropic’s Claude AI model. Users log in with their Bluesky credentials and interact with the assistant via a chatbot interface. By analyzing a user’s interests and previous interactions, the AI generates a tailored content feed.

While the current beta version—initially available to event participants—focuses on content curation, the long-term vision is more ambitious. Bluesky aims to enable “vibe-coding,” where users can intuitively design their own social applications through simple text commands.

The project is spearheaded by Jay Graber, who recently transitioned from CEO to Chief Innovation Officer. Graber emphasizes that while traditional platforms use AI to maximize data collection and user retention, Bluesky intends for AI to serve the individual. This “user-centric” approach seeks to help people find meaningful “signal” within digital noise.

To support this expansion, Bluesky recently secured $100 million in funding, providing the company with over three years of financial runway. Despite its current base of 43.4 million users, interim CEO Toni Schneider clarified that there are no plans to integrate cryptocurrency or payment tools. Instead, the focus remains on decentralization and sustainable monetization through subscriptions and hosting services.

The launch of Attie represents a significant departure from the “walled garden” model of Big Tech. By democratizing algorithmic creation, Bluesky is transitioning from a standard social network into an open laboratory where users act as the architects of their own digital environments. An official public release date for Attie is expected in the coming weeks.
