I found a hidden setting that’s slowing down almost every LG TV

Since switching to an LG TV last year, I’ve been seriously impressed with it. I went with the LG C5 because I wanted an OLED, and when I saw it discounted by $500 during Black Friday, I didn’t need much more convincing. The OLED panel delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and outstanding contrast, and using it for gaming and streaming over the past six months has been incredible. And yes, since this is my first OLED TV, I’ll admit I’m probably more blown away by it than someone who’s already owned one.

But beyond the picture quality, one thing that has consistently stood out to me is LG’s settings menu. I know that’s not exactly the feature most people rave about on a TV, but LG really left no stone unturned here. Its TVs are packed with useful settings that let you customize and personalize the experience far more than you might expect, whether that’s tweaking energy-saving options, turning off ads, or optimizing performance to make the TV feel faster — all things I’ve covered on Pocket-lint.

Plus, alongside the standard settings menu, LG TVs also have a hidden settings menu that you can access only by pressing a specific button combination on the remote, kind of like entering a cheat code in a PS2 or GameCube game back in the day.

Inside that secret settings menu is an option that doesn’t seem like a huge deal at first, but after turning it off, it ended up making a bigger difference than I expected: disabling the LG logo that appears when the TV powers off. Not only does this make the TV shut down faster, since the LG TV logo appearing slows the shutdown process, but it also prevents a static image from being displayed unnecessarily on the screen.

How to turn off the LG logo on your TV

It makes turning off your TV way smoother

To stop the LG logo from appearing every time you power off your TV, you’ll need to open the hidden settings menu I mentioned earlier. Don’t worry, though, it’s easy to access, and there’s a good chance you may have even opened it by accident before, as I did. Here’s how to open the secret settings menu on your LG TV and disable the power-off logo, step by step:

1. On your LG TV’s remote, press the Settings button (the gear icon) three times in a row.

2. A new settings menu should appear on the right side of your screen, with “Select menu item” displayed at the top.

3. Scroll down to the option “Show Logo when turning off the TV,” then toggle it off.

Now, when you power off your LG TV, it shuts down instantly instead of flashing the LG logo first. This also applies when the TV goes into standby mode.

While it might not seem like a huge change, I’ve really come to appreciate it. Now, when I turn off my TV, it just turns off — no extra pause, no logo flash, nothing in between. Which is exactly what I want. I don’t need a reminder every time I power it down that it’s an LG TV. I just want the screen to go black instantly, and turning off this setting accomplishes that.

Additionally, while you’re in that hidden settings menu, there are a couple of other options worth checking out. One of them is the “No Signal Image” setting. When you turn it off, the default colorful No Signal splash screen is replaced by a simple black screen with white text that reads “No Signal.” So if you’d prefer a basic No Signal screen, turning off this setting delivers that.

I’ve covered tons of other LG TV tips and tricks on Pocket-lint, like renaming your HDMI inputs, making casting easier, or stopping your TV from spying on you, so if you’re looking for more ways to improve your LG TV experience, I recommend checking them out.
