Users Find A Way To Remove AI From Windows 11

RemoveWindowsAI is a new opensource script that is gaining widespread attention among Windows 11 users seeking to eliminate artificial intelligence components integrated into Microsoft’s operating system. Created by the developer @zoicware and hosted on GitHub, this tool quickly surpassed a thousand stars and has become a central topic of discussion among users who wish to go back to the more traditional way of using the PC, an AI-free experience.

The script basically targets the core infrastructure supporting Microsoft’s AI features, being able to remove stuff like Copilot, Recall, and AI-powered functions in Paint and Notepad. It’s worth remembering that Recall, one of the most debated features, automatically screenshots what’s being shown to build a timeline of user activity. The removal process involves registry edits, AppX package deletions, elimination of hidden installers, and the installation of a package that blocks Windows Update from reinstalling all the AI components. These steps promise a long-term removal and reduce AI presence across the whole system.

Currently, RemoveWindowsAI is offering two usage modes: a graphical interface for regular users and an automated mode for those who want fast application with less to minimal interaction. It also provides handy backup and restore options, allowing users to re-enable AI features later if desired. In terms of compatibility, it’s compatible starting from Windows 11 version 25H2, (aka, the update that introduced AI features as a default part of the system).

After a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), the interest for this cool tool grew rapidly, reinforcing ongoing debates about performance impacts, system resource usage, and the perception that Windows doesn’t allow a full AI disablement through its standard settings. Privacy concerns also play a significant role, especially regarding Recall and AI Agents capable of interacting with system files and performing automated actions.

While Microsoft is still investing heavily in AI and positions Windows as a major platform for future intelligent computing, the developer responsible for RemoveWindowsAI says he plans to keep updating the script as new AI tools are added to future upcoming official builds. It’s important to mention that Insider versions of Windows will not be supported.
